Chantilly, Virginia – On Oct. 5, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell recognized Integrity Applications Incorporated (IAI) for being selected as one of 15 employers in the country to receive the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Secretary of Defense Freedom Award Freedom Award. Gov. McDonnell presented a letter and certificate of congratulations to IAI Chairman and CEO Joseph Brickey. Also in attendance were IAI COO Bill Jugus, IAI nominator Lt. Col. Darryl Brayman, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs David L. McGinnis, and Steve Villalpando, incoming State Chair of VaESGR.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, honored employers at a ceremony held on Sept. 22 with the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. Nominations must come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member.
Other employers honored at the 2011 ceremony included 3M, Ford Motor Company and Wells Fargo & Company. IAI, headquartered in Chantilly, is the sole Virginia employer honored. Secretary of Defense William Perry authorized the first award in 1996. The award was created to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees. It is the highest in a series of employer recognition awards given by the Department of Defense. Since 1996, a total of 145 employers have received this prestigious award.
Of IAI employees, 44 percent are veterans, including four of the six members of the Board of Directors and three of the four founders. IAI offers flexible work schedules to help reserve component members meet their drilling and military schooling obligations, and finds ways to support families of deployed service members.
Almost one-half of the U.S. military is comprised of the Guard and Reserve. The Department of Defense shares these citizen warriors with their civilian employers, many of whom provide significant support to their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. This award recognizes employers who provide the most outstanding support for their Guard and Reserve employees and is presented annually by the Secretary of Defense.
